Going through the shelves I found Horizons, a literature and art review journal edited by Cyril Connolly, who quipped, “Better to write for yourself and have no public, than to write for the public and have no self.”‘
One excerpt stood out from an issue of October 1947 by e.e. cummings (whose name he rendered in all caps). An image of that is below:
