Bleeding Hearts, One Single Impression

paths between centerpieces
suminagashi-combed scents

and sense of criss-crossings
here detergent, there

an angle from window
new degree, buds sticky opening

snowballs of pollen
fallen from the black tulip

trailing florals and vines
– ikebana pause

across tablecloths trails
lean forward, elbows

and back out walking
people disperse, sun

same cobblestone
as each yesterday

something new has opened
eyes were all periphery

find the small deep pink
move to center focus

I love the photo. And the words complement it too well!

  3. I admit it – I had to look up the two words. *blush* Once I understood I could see it more clearly. Lovely poem Pearl. :)

Pearl, your poem is intriguing and unique. It is a work of art in progress, but… Tell me more about it because I want to understand better.

I meant to say: I perceive that the poem is about a work of art in progress…

This is a wonderfully meditative poem. I love how you draw attention outward and inward, varying the focus.

    I like all the motion,
    becoming circular,
    and focusing in
    at the end.

This is lovely and rich in motion, scent and color. I like the last two lines especially. Beautifully done. http://ravensviews.blogspot.com/2008/05/one-single-impression-bleeding.html

  9. “combed scents” has me so intrigued. I love the vision of this (which is changing as I type). Very very nice poem!

  12. Re: re

you were closer the first time. it’s a draft. :)

it’s just describing the scents in a room crowded with people and conversations and walking outside to clear head of the clutter and centering on a single prevailing scent of a newly opened blossom.

  13. I loved ‘sense of criss-crossings’ as it seems my own life does that quite often. I also enjoyed ‘snowballs of pollen fallen from the black tulip’ as this is often how I see through the eyes of my camera. Beautifully done.

..the focus on a blossom on a prompt like ‘bleeding’ speaks of the many ways poetry would approach ideas or precepts and continue to jump happy surprises..thank u for the same..
