Tree Workshops this Season

Each 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month the Tree Reading Series is at Arts Court on Daly Ave, just East of the Rideau Centre.

It is often held in the library room on floor 2a.

At 8 pm is the featured readers, sometimes an open mic and often a tribute to past poets.

But the doors open at 6:30 pm and from 6:45-7:45 there’s a free drop-in poetics and poetry craft workshop session. This term this is the lineup of facilitators:

January 22: Sound Techniques: Voice and Mics, Part 2 with Jennifer Pederson
You will learn how to breathe, how to project your voice, and how to make your voice connect with your audience in order to give your poetry more impact. You will try out techniques out on your fellow participants. Please bring a short sample of your own work for this.

February 12: Round Table Workshopping a Poem with Pearl Pirie
Bring 10 copies of a poem that you write that you feel needs helping hands and more sets of eyes.

February 26: Playing with Constraints with Gwynn Scheltema
Explore poetic constraints and look at what various Oulipo practitioners have created, including poems by Joe Brainard, Christian Bök, and Inger Christensen. Then play with generative devices that will ideally, propel your writing forward into places you may or may not have anticipated it could go.

March 26: Using Your Voice with John Koensgen
John has been a professional theatre artist for over 35 years. He has worked extensively as an actor across the country and has been a member of The Stratford Shakespeare Festival Acting Company.

April 9: Stage Presence with John Koensgen

April 23: Relationship with a subject with John Steffler
The subject: building form from close, prolonged consideration of a subject.

May 14, 28 with John Akpata
